The D-piece incorporates a one-way valve to prevent air from being drawn back into the device. The exhaled breath is then filtered through an infection control system, effectively capturing and eliminating over 99.9% of airborne bacteria. This mechanism significantly minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and safeguards the device from potential contamination.

Intended for use with multiple patients, the D-piece should be replaced at least monthly.
